When is the Best Time For You to Buy Travel Insurance?

Time is a major factor when making a decision about purchasing travel insurance. That why we recommend purchasing at the time you book your trip or very soon after. This is important because travel insurance policies include time-sensitive provisions which can broaden your coverage if you purchase the insurance very early during your travel plans.

So, what are these time-sensitive provisions?

Let's start with the ever-so-popular Cancel for Any Reason. Our go to example is the traveling partners one. Say a couple is planning a trip together. Suddenly, they break up and have to cancel their trip. Unfortunately for them, their travel insurance doesn't cover broken hearts and they're out their non-refundable pre-paid expenses.

That's where Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) comes in. It lets you cancel your trip for literally any reason, even the ones not covered by the policy. Afraid of COVID? Covered. Not sure about Cuba? Covered. The couple above? Covered. With CFAR, travelers are getting 75% of their insured non-refundable trip cost back instead of losing it all.

The other time-sensitive provision is the Pre-Existing Condition Waiver. This one is pretty simple; the Pre-X Waiver gets rid of the Pre-Existing Condition Exclusions. As long as you're well enough to travel when you purchase your plan, you're good to go!

How much time do I have?

Our time-sensitive benefits are only available to travelers who purchase their insurance within 21 days of the initial deposit date. The initial deposit date is the day you first put any money down for your trip. So, the moment you pay for anything non-refundable for your trip, the clock begins to tick. So if you think you may need either of these, act smart and act quick. Don't let regret ruin your trip.
