Tips for Traveling With Prescriptions

  1. Use A Carry On- Protect your pills from change in temperatue or getting lost by keeping them in your carry on.
  2. Bring A Cooler- Some medications, like insulin, need to stay refrigerated. A cooler will keep your meds stable while still staying on your person.
  3. Take Extra- Feeling spontaneous? Make sure . you bring extra meds in case your trip is extended for reasons in and out of your control.
  4. Keep Original Packaging- Some countries have strict policies when it comes to meds. Save time at customs by bringing the original packing.
  5. Bring A Doctor's Note- A note on letter head from you doctor containing your medical information will be helpful in case of a medical emergency.
  6. Have Contact Info- If while on your trip you have to visit a doctor, having your primary physician's contact information will help you get proper treatment.
  7. Call the Consulate- If you have questions about traveling to certain areas with a prescription, call your consulate to learn about rules and restrictions.
  8. Have a 2nd Prescription- If you meds happen to be lost or stolen, having a second prescription on you will help you get back on track in a timely manner.
  9. Prep for Jet Lag- If you're traveling to a different time zone, talk to your doctor about changing your medication schedule.
  10. Research Vaccinations- When traveling to certain countries, it's necessary to get vaccinations, Make sure they don't conflict with your current prescription before getting them.
